Urgent help needed to find missing Polish girl!

Leaflets to trace missing woman

Karolina Okonska
Karolina Okonska has not been in contact with her family

Leaflets featuring a picture of a missing young woman are being handed out at a railway station in a bid to try and trace her.

Karolina Okonska, 19, arrived at Birmingham Moor Street from Poland last Tuesday but has since vanished.

She contacted a cousin to say she had arrived but had gone missing by the time he arrived to pick her up.

She was due to start work at a fruit farm near Worcester. Her family said her disappearance was out of character.

'No contact'

West Midlands Police said Karolina, who is from a small village in Poland and speaks little English, had been due to wait for her cousin and his friend to meet her.

They were then due to travel to the fruit-picking job.

Det Ch Insp Sue Southern said Karolina was not "streetwise".

"She has not been in touch with her family since and these factors are giving us very strong cause for concern," she said.

Police said they wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen her after getting off her coach at Moor Street and were checking CCTV footage.

It is possible she may have tried to make her own way to Worcester by hitching a lift or using public transport.

As Consul I shall be meeting West Midlands Police tomorrow to discuss progress on this case.
